Year of the Snake Working Group Plans
PARC is designating 2013 as Year of the Snake. The overall goal of the working group is to implement Year of the Snake activities at the regional level and ensure that the Northeast region is well represented in national level activities.
Planned projects
- Year of Snake video – Video that focuses on snakes, their value, threats, and conservation. Scott McDaniel is producing and will work with Heidi Hall (YOS coordinator) to integrate the video into YOS activities.
- Timber Rattlesnake brochure – Develop and distribute a brochure on Timber Rattlesnakes in the Northeast.
- YOS symposium – Seek to host a YOS symposium at the upcoming NEAFWA conference.
- Snake myths – Develop and distribute a brochure that dispels myths that are associated with snakes. One example would be comparing frequency of snake bites and deaths in comparison to other accidents such as bee stings, horse accidents, or car accidents.
